| Since
1957 Iram, an independent organisation specialising
in applied research in development methodology, has
been active in international development cooperation.
Combining objective expertise of the highest level with
ethical commitment, Iram works in more than 40 countries
in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, South East
Asia and Europe.
In each
specialist area (see opposite), Iram carries out different
types of work: conducting studies, providing methodological
advice, organising training and implementing development
programmes. The permanent, multidisciplinary team made
up of 30 full-time staff (agronomists, economists, geographers,
anthropologists, management experts and training staff)
ensures that comprehensive responses to development
issues are proposed. Iram provides technical assistance
to about ten long-term programmes and carries out more
than a hundred appraisal missions per year. The annual
turnover for all these activities is 3 million euros.
For nearly
50 years Iram has gathered together numerous references,
not only thematic and geographic but also methodological,
in development cooperation and these enable the teams
in the field to place their action in the local historic,
social and economic context. Keen to innovate and contribute
actively to the strengthening of the skills of the local
development workers, Iram has developed tools and methods
for our partners in developing countries.
