Coordinated by the international alliance AgriCord between 2020 and 2025, the SEPOP project ("Services and Advocacy by Farmers' Organizations") aimed to strengthen the capacities of producer organizations in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Iram conducted the final evaluation of this project.
Producer organizations fulfill numerous roles for family farmers, including the provision of technical or economic services (marketing, advisory services, training, financing, etc.) and representing their interests to policymakers at various levels.
The SEPOP project ("Services and Advocacy by Farmers' Organizations") aimed to strengthen the capacities of producer organizations in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America (covering 16 countries and 8 partner Agri-Agencies), specifically by:
- Improving the quality and delivery of services offered by producer organizations to their members;
- Strengthening the legitimacy and involvement of producer organizations in the design and implementation of inclusive, sustainable, and co-managed public policies.
Significant work was produced regarding the training of farmer leaders, economic support and access to finance for producer organizations, and resilience to climate change. Iram conducted an integrated, cross-cutting evaluation of the project, drawing on eight case studies and two field missions—one in Ecuador and one in Togo.
